Calamus is a plant with an interesting character. It grows in water, but has a very warm and dry energy; it's a solar plant that grows in places we conventionally associate with the Moon. It was burned during the Egyptian mummification rites as well as the Temple according to Exodus, is said to ward against snakes, is used in dominations and love bindings, and is associated with eroticism and Kundalini in some Indian texts. It had varied uses among Native American cultures, as well.
Calamus Root is not suitable for ingestion, however. It contains two compounds that induce vomiting.
