Mace is actually the seed covering of the nutmeg. They share some similar fragrance notes, but Mace is more subtle when dried. When it is combusted, however, the subtlety comes to an abrupt end. It should not be burned.

Mace doesn't have a long or deep history of magical use in the West. In Hoodoo, it is usually associated with Jupiter and used for money drawing (IYKYK). But the associations with an aggressive defense are obvious, and it can also be used in rituals aimed at disarming.
